If you ever read my blog, My Kid Has Paws; you know that Rooney is the kind of dog who loves to swim in mud puddles as much as he loves to swim in swimming pools. Not to mention, he sheds, a ton!
So, one would imagine that my car isn’t always in the best shape. However, my car is new, so I try not to let the dog hair in my car get out of control. Today, I would like to share with you some tips that you can use to keep your car clean from dog hair.
Car Seat Covers
First and foremost, invest in a good car seat cover. Look for a cover that secures well in your car and hides the amount of dog hair that is actually in your car (i.e., is the same color as your dog). Most importantly, your car seat cover should be machine washable. A machine washable car seat cover will allow you to quickly remove the majority of the dog hair from your car and throw it in the wash while you tackle cleaning your car.
Keep a Towel in the Trunk
I always keep a towel in the trunk my car for two purposes. First, I use it to get the mud off of Rooney after hikes to reduce the amount of dirt and grime on the car cover. Secondly, I put it on the ground under Rooney’s seat to pick up the extra dog hair that comes off of Rooney as he dries after a swim.
Lint Roller
If I didn’t have a lint roller, I would constantly be covered in dog hair (Rooney particularly likes to nap on my clothes when I lay them out in the morning). So, I try to keep a lint roller on my desk and in my car. Not only will this help you keep dog hair off your clothes, but it is a great way to quickly remove dog hair from your seats if you need to give someone a ride.
Fabric Softener Sheets
Used fabric softener sheets are a great way to clean dog hair from your seats quickly. You can use these to gather dog hair from the seats, and in the hard to reach corners of the car where dog hair tends to gather the most.
Clean up Right Away
Amy Sinatra Ayres from Vetstreet.com recommends cleaning your car sooner rather than later. While I can’t say that I actively live by this rule, I could see how regularly removing the dog hair could keep your car cleaner, longer.
Extra Tools
If your dog sheds a lot (Corgis, German Shepherds, Labrador Retrievers, Huskies, etc.), you might want to keep a few extra dog hair tools in your car. For example, the Petmate Pet Hair Magnet can help you quickly gather pet hair from your seats, making it easier to vacuum and remove from your car.
