The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (ARLGP) is first and foremost a life-saving organization. Their mission? To nurture the connection between people and pets to advance animal welfare and improve the quality of life in their community.
The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland is located in Westbrook, Maine and serves 15 surrounding towns including Maine’s most populated city, Portland. This non-profit organization provides temporary care and shelter for roughly 4,000 stray, abandoned, confiscated, and relinquished animals every year.
They place as many pets as possible into caring homes, create awareness and support for the humane treatment of all animals, and strive to end animal overpopulation through education and the promotion of spaying and neutering.
